Our Generations Tea Party
Thursday, March 05, 2009 6:33 PM on j-body.org

There's a storm abrewin'.. What happens when good, responsible people keep quiet? Washington has forgotten they work for us. We don't work for them.. Throwing good money after bad is NOT the answer. I am sick of the midnight, closed door sessions to come up with a plan. I am sick of Congress raking CEO's over the coals while they, themselves, have defaulted on their taxes. I am sick of the bailed out companies having lavish vacations and retreats on my dollar. I am sick of being told it is MY responsibility to rescue people that, knowingly, bought more house than they could afford. I am sick of being made to feel it is my patriotic duty to pay MORE taxes. I, like all of you, am a responsible citizen. I pay my taxes. I live on a budget and I don't ask someone else to carry the burden for poor decisions I may make. I have emailed my congressmen and senators asking them to NOT vote for the stimulus package as it was written without reading it first. No one listened. They voted for it, pork and all.

O.K. folks, here it is. You may think you are just one voice and what you think won't make a difference. Well, yes it will and YES, WE CAN!! If you are disgusted and angry with the way Washington is handling our taxes. If you are fearful of the fallout from the wreckless spending of BILLIONS to bailout and "stimulate" without accountability and responsibility then we need to become ONE, LOUD VOICE THAT CAN BE HEARD FROM EVERY CITY, TOWN, SUBURB AND HOME IN AMERICA. There is a growing protest to demand that Congress, the President and his cabinet LISTEN to us, the American Citizens. What is being done in Washington is NOT the way to handle the economic free fall.

So, here's the plan. On April 1, 2009, all Ameicans are asked to send a TEABAG to Washinton , D.C. You do not have to enclose a note or any other information unless you so desire. Just a TEABAG. Many cities are organizing protests. If you simply search, "New American Tea Party", several sites will come up. If you aren't the 'protester' type, simply make your one voice heard with a TEABAG. Your one voice will become a roar when joined with millions of others that feel the same way. Yes, something needs to be done but the lack of confidence as shown by the steady decline in the stock market speaks volumes.

This was not my idea. I visited the sites of the 'New American Tea Pary' and an online survey showed over 90% of thousands said they would send the teabag on April 1.
Why, April 1?? We want them to reach Washington by April 15.
Will you do it?
I will.
Send it to; 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington , D.C. 20500 .

Can't guarantee what the postage will be by then, it is going up as we speak, but have your envelope ready. What will this cost you? A little time and a 40 something cent stamp.

What could you receive in benefits? Maybe, just maybe, our elected officials will start to listen to the people. Take out the Pork. Tell us how the money is being spent. We want TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY.

Remember, the money will be spent over the next 4-5 years.

It is not too late.

This should be the first... and if they don't listen to the people, Hopefully, not the last.

Chris

that IS a protest. but it will most likely be an ineffectual one. what we need are 60s style protests. unfortunately, i dont forsee that actually happening.

They are beginning to happen. I saw pictures the other day from one in Washington. There was quite a crowd. There were also protests at two of Obama's stops on his tour trying to promote the stimulus bill before it passed.

I love me a good protest. But this is just silly. Protests need a clear message. What exactly do you want government to do in response? Be "more accoutable"? Really? Government has no reason to be more accountable until people really start paying attention. If you want accountability, you need to go the people, not legislators. We will never see real accountability until people get serious about how they vote. Even if people do make it to the polls, they very rarely vote with more than the evening news' worth of knowledge and their ideological preference. Until we evolve further than that, legislators will do as they please with no reason to fear for their seats...

My US congressman is a classic example. He can do whatever the hell he wants, and he will never be voted out. Why? Because I live in a very conservative area, and all he has to do is send out glossy ads every few months with 2 pages worth of info about how he's sticking up for your right to own a gun. Most voters don't look into it any further.

so your view is to just sit back and do nothing, because we can't change things?

good POV

the point is to show there are actually people out there who still care, and want to see a real change in politics. Not just the normal speech of change with no results. Maybe it will send a message, maybe it won't, but to sit back and do nothing all the while bitching about it is just asinine.

That's not my point at all. I'm extremely active, and have spent countless hours encouraging political participation. I have run political campaigns and plan on running for office in the near future. What I'm saying is that this, while it has great intentions, will have literally no effect.

I mean I couldn't agree more that we need more accountably politicians, but I just don't see the utility in this. To chage things, you need to make someone feel the heat. Let me sum up everything I learned studying and working in politics. Legislators care about one thing above all else, and that is getting re-elected. This isn't dissing them, the same goes for most everyone. In any profession, not getting fired is a damn high priority. So, for an effective message, someone has to feel the pressure, they need to know that if things don't change, its their ass.

If you want this to work, it has to be more targeted than this. Identify the individual politicians you think are the biggest part of the problem, and organize a large group of voters from THAT POLITICIAN'S DISTRICT to do something like this. Otherwise, its as generic and useless as spam email trying to sell you viagra...

Hell, if you do that, I might be willing to help.

I see you guys stimulating the USPS, and covering the White House tea budget for a few months...
As said, it is not direct enough (I bet most of the politicians don't even hear about it, since the envelopes are all opened by interns, who will be instructed by a supervisor to toss the tea in the nearest receptacle (after it's scanned for Anthrax traces, of course).

You must live near a bunch of these guys ^^^^^^... Face it, my war forum brethren, many of you complain about having your guns taken away more than ANYTHING else. I honestly believe that if Ron Paul came out tomorrow and denounced the 3rd amendment, you would call him BHO Jr. regardless of their conflicting views on just about everything else

History......

What was the point of the first Tea Party?

All I want is for them, All of them, to know, "we are watching...."

That's all. If you don't like it, so be it. I think it will make them think.

To me, its as Teddy Roosevelt said,

"For Good Government, use First,
The Soap Box,
The Ballot Box,
And if need Be, The Ammo Box."

Wonder why there are so many gun laws....

Or what Gen. Washington said about the Second amendment.

"The Second amendment is secondary to the constitution alone for importance of a free nation."

This is not a debate.

I Humbly Implore you to take part in this act, chances are it will have no effect, nor get any coverage by the news, However it is an important step for the people of this Nation to undertake in Earning there nation back for themselves.

i cant imagine why ron paul would ever support the quartering of soldiers...? im sure you meant the second amendment. but the reason we have the second amendment is so that when the government begins to go down a path that we do not support (ahem....like what we are headed into now) we can do something about it. yes, i understand that a real revolution with guns would actually be ineffective against our own military. BUT it allows us to try, and more importantly, it allows us to fight for what we believe. this is why the second amendment is so important. without it we can be controlled and manipulated economically and in other ways. but all it really takes is a single bullet to change the course of history.

This is of course, if the military dose not fallow there oath, "To defend the CONSTITUTION against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

I can say, if it came to it, most of the military would be on the other side of the line.

And, looking at History once more, it was a rag tag group, that took on the worlds most powerful nation, and won back in 76.

Partly true. But in the time when it was created, it was meant to defend the country, and not go out and shoot opossum. During the independence, it was our armed farmers or citizens that saved the country right after the our military fought hard but was almost all shot down.
Switzerland and Costa Rica practices much the same way how our 2nd amendment was originally intended.

Fast forward to today and people just abused this Amendment, more so that our law enforcement is at times overpowered, at least in big cities.

i dont see how it is being abused. true, the average citizen will probably not need a government surplus machine gun for a daily job. but gun collecting is a very large hobby, plus there is the idea of home protection, as well as using them for sport. but in the end, none of those reasons should matter: the people should (and do) have the RIGHT to have these types of guns.

regardless of your own views of what the people should or shouldnt have, it was a RIGHT given to them by our founding government. and those men have shown greater intelligence and foresight than pretty much any other politician we have had since. so keep that in mind when you try to rationalize your political views on this matter.

also, and this really shouldnt need to be said since it is also such an obvious answer, you need to remember that the only time law enforcement is outgunned is when they are fighting what? a criminal--one who has already shown a lack of respect for the law. so breaking another law and buying an illegal gun is not going to be a problem for these types.

This is the heart of the whole argument against the gun control laws.

The only people who won't buy guns when they are made illegal are law-abiding citizens. It will not curb the guns in the hands of criminals.
