Can you imagine having to get together with your neighbors to defend your neighborhood from gangs of thugs? These people are conducting watch patrols, many of whom are armed with little more that makeshift clubs and spears. Some even hired bedouin mercenaries to watch their homes.

That would actually be kinda fun. Except all my neighbors are old.

I'd love to be able to take matters into my own hands. Too much BS going on in my neighborhood and the police don't do nearly enough, yet if I attack the person breaking into my house I'm the criminal.
