KOTL,

I am kinda on the ignorant side when it comes to nuclear physics. I was just repeating what former president Jimmy Carter said during his term. Since he is a nuclear engineer and humane, I have faith in what he says.

After all the nukes are deployed from all these countries, this world will not be habitable any more, just because of the high level of radiation as a residue. That same radiation can be traveled around by the earth's wind. Eventually radiation will be inevitable on the earth's surface or in human living. So Earth itself will not be livable.

The only place that will be safe is in the NASA's space station or in a mountain under the earth and don't even think about see the sunlight.

Thing is these politicians can't see that.

THE POLITICALLY INCORRECT ONE.

The problem is that it's just one more country with a gun cocked and pointed to your head.

The only country the US does not have attack plans for is Canada. Look at it like this... Tell a bunch of Quebecois that they're going to have the US taking out their supply of Pepsi and Jos Louis' and you'll have all the trouble you can handle. Terrorists BUNK! Just Kidding.

Canada is the only country to have the technology, and supplies (on our own land) to manufacture Atomic Weapons, yet doesn't (not Including Germany and Japan... they're forbidden by UN charter to posess nuclear weapons). Maybe leading by example isn't working and we (meaning Canucks) have to go and slap around the world at large.

RoboGeek:
N Korea is not the doings of Clinton... Face facts. If you want to bitch and moan, look at China first. N. Korea didn't have any kind of Nuclear abilities before 1953 when they 'Miraculously' developed the ability to have them... without enrichment facilities. Yeah...

Also, before you start the afore mentioned bitching and moaning about the UN being corrupt, look at the CIA, Selling cocaine, Heroin, and developing Crack for widespread consumption. The US as a whole makes more off the misery of Saudis in 2 years than the world ever did off the Oil for Food Programme in Iraq. You want to play who suffers more, Look there, and look at the US's dependence on a "royal" family and then look at the fact that they are prime business partners of YOUR PRESIDENT.

Correction. 25% of the population makes the decision for the other 75% (last election had only 51% of eligible voters turn out)

Atomic weapons the likes which the Soviets have, yes, 20-25 hydrogen bombs would make the east coast a pretty inhospitable neighborhood for about the next 10000 years.

Once read a book written by one of the top Nuclear military strategists in the 60's and 70's.

Apparently, every city with a population over 500 has a nuke aimed at it. Thats right. Any city with a population equal to or greater then 500 people has a nuke aimed at it. Larger cities get 'saturated' bombed. You know, just to be sure...

Moscow, Hong Kong, London, Athens, Seoul, Toronto, Collingwood, and all those backwater No Name Brand boonie hick towns... even the pigmy's in the Indonesian islands have Nukes aimed at them.

Don't kid yourself. Nobody is on the 'Neutral side'. No one is gonna 'sit back and watch' if sh1t every really did hit the fan. Heck, it'd be over so fast, word of the immenent nuclear holocaust and the end of humanity wouldn't even reach the masses before the bombs landed.

This was a very detailed book.

This is all really an aside from my previous post, but thought it was relevant to what you guys were saying above. No one wants a nuclear war. No one. At best this is a dick flapping contest... with the stakes being humanity...

Actually almost all UN countries did back the US plan, we just couldn't get the ball moving as France, Germany, and Russia didn't want us to go in and without them we couldn't get the U.N.. Not because of some "higher morale standing", but because of the illegal weapons caches and oil for food scandal that was going on between them and Iraq. They didn't want us to stop a good thing for them, or to find all of the Russian/german missiles and technicians being provided to Iraq BY THESE COUNTRIES in a direct violation of the UN's own sanctions.

Its funny how the only station at the time to mention these scandals and their obvious connection to the reluctance of those three countries to back the US was Fox news.
The other networks never mentioned this and in fact made it seem like these countries were acting on their own morals. Now it comes out after a few years and these networks still play off the UN food for oil scandal even though it was one of the most corrupt instances the world has ever seen.

Notice that most of the coalition of sheep decided to send token forces?

Also, What weapons? If mean Chemical, they were catalogued and left over from Desert Storm... Iran still bordered Iraq, and they did need to be able to keep the Iranians out. Make no mistake, you cannot totally disarm a country and leave it incapable of defending its sovereignty. There were no French or German Missiles nor technicians... If you bothered to read half of the reports coming out of Iraq, they were all Russian, and all were poorly modified, and none were complete in 10 YEARS. You know whats funnier? That Fox news was blatantly wrong on all counts.

Media in the US is skewed to make the US look good, and then report on the rest of the world. Never forget that. As well, read a previous comment about oil for food, the US is by far more corrupt and underhaded when we talk only about Saudi Arabia and the "royal" family.

Also, never forget that Rumsfeld knew of the goings of Abu Gharaib, as well as getting a lot of front-line data about the absence of weapons.

Common sense ain't that Common.

that was posted on the internet. there was a soldier that before he went to Iraq he used to watch CNN. got over there realized CNN didn't really report alot of what was going on and was never accurate. came home and only watches fox news. says thats the only station thats anywhere near reporting what it's actually like over there.

No the UN did'nt back the US invading Iraq because Kofi Annans' son, among others were making mega bucks by funneling money out of the oil for food program. Dumbass.

N. Korea now is DEMANDING bilateral talks with the US... whatever that means... do they want us to disarm? good luck there.. Do as daddy says not as daddy does!

Bush installed 'interceptors' in alaska in november... but supposedly they have less than a 10% chance of knocking a icbm out of the sky... and thats IF we detect and launch in time...

Everything aside, North Korea should be delt with, just for the way they oppress their people.

other creatures would survive--we're one of the most fragile speicies there is. even if we had some 30,000 nukes (generous worl estimate) go off, there would still be oife on the planet that survives, and the planet would renew itself.

Humainty, on the other hand, is @!#$. proper @!#$.

In other words, we overplay our importance and mix up "the world" with humanity. We have enough nukes to bring about total extinction of Homo Sapiens, but the world is made of stronger stuff.

Don't believe me? Ask someone in Indonesia if they feel like a threat to the planet this week

hmmmm....60's and 70's......oh right COLD WAR, and there is no way that there is even enough nuclear material to create that many warheads, not to mention the delivery systems.

And auctually, as far as I know, North Korea is in violation of a UN sanction, so then, all countries would have to move in, according to them joining the UN, so even France would have to help out, right?

I'm ready to fight and die for a country that has given me the freedom to speak my mind, and not have to worry about being sent to a gas chamber and concentration camps**cough**North Korea**cough**

and if you dont believe about those death camps, i watched an interview on 60 minutes, and this former commander openly admitted to running a camp, and explained in detail all that went on. Sounds like Nazi Germany in the mid 40's.

Problem is we're going to have to cooperate with North Korea whether we like it or not. There's no way we can successfully invade them without massive casualities, it certainly won't be like the ride to Baghdad. The North Koreans have a well trained, well equipped, and massive army. Manpower-wise its bigger than ours I believe. Unless we get Russia to work with us (which ain't happening) it could look like France after D-Day, in the end we'd win I think but with probably the most casualties since Nam. Then of course you have the China factor, they're sure to help out Korea just like the first Korean "conflict" and I seriously doubt we can take on both those big boys.

N Korea has a standing army of 12 million IIRC...

China would probably help out if Kim Juong Il got petulant enough though. The north Koreans have become too radical for China to ignore, and there are too many loose cannons on the mill today, soon enough, they'll start in on China, and Beijing doesn't want that.

Thing that I find funny is that Dr. Oppenheimer didn't think twice about detonating the first nuclear weapon, after he did, he became a staunch anti-nuclear armament activist.

I think he claimed he didn't realize the affects of the fallout, radiation sickness, nuclear winter etc until after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Manhattan project was thrown together so fast they didn't have time to consider that. Their job was to get the biggest bang for the buck. And they sure did.

He was talking about the initial atmospheric test in New Mexico.

The Fallout bit wasn't considered until after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They actually started measuring the effects on Bikini Atoll post-war, about 1949-1950. That was when they figured out some of the effects of radiation, post-detonation atmospheric phenomenae (radio interference for about 72 hours), and fall out from the reaction, and secondary fall out from irratiated and vaporised ash from previously standing items.

Check your histroy.

North Korea exists because when the US soldier serving as part of a UN force to secure the border fired the first shots and started the open warfare way back when, the Chinese said, "cross this line and we'l get involeved". Wel we crossed the line, China got involved and push the blue hats back to the line. It has remained that way since. China sees North Korea as it's issue, and does not want western influence or military any where near there.
